राहुल गांधी यांनी त्यांच्या WhatsApp चॅनलवर केलेल्या एका सविस्तर पोस्टमुळे राजकीय वर्तुळात मोठी खळबळ माजली आहे. “New India’s New EC – Chronology समजून घ्या” या शीर्षकाखाली त्यांनी निवडणूक आयोगातील (Election Commission) नियुक्त्यांची संपूर्ण वेळापत्रक मांडले असून, सरकारने निवड प्रक्रियेत हस्तक्षेप केल्याचा गंभीर आरोप त्यांनी केला आहे.
या पोस्टमध्ये त्यांनी माजी CEC राजीव कुमार, विद्यमान CEC ज्ञानेश कुमार यांच्याबाबत महत्त्वपूर्ण माहिती दिली आहे. तसेच, स्वच्छ मतदार यादी (Clean Voter List), EC Transparency आणि Democracy या या जनतेचे हक्क आहेत, कोणाच्याही दयेवर नाहीत, असेही राहुल गांधींनी स्पष्ट केले आहे.
2020 – अशोक लवासा यांचा राजीनामा, राजीव कुमार यांची एन्ट्री
सप्टेंबर 2020 मध्ये निवडणूक आयुक्त अशोक लवासा यांनी राजीनामा दिला. कारण, 2019 च्या लोकसभा निवडणुकीदरम्यान पंतप्रधान नरेंद्र मोदी आणि अमित शाह यांच्या विरोधातील MCC (Model Code of Conduct) उल्लंघन प्रकरणात त्यांनी विरोधी मत नोंदवले होते.
मार्च 2020 मध्ये त्यांच्या जागी राजीव कुमार आले. नोटबंदीच्या काळात ते वित्त सचिव होते आणि जनधन योजना व मुद्रा योजना या मोदी सरकारच्या महत्त्वाच्या योजनांमध्ये त्यांनी थेट काम केले होते.
2022 – राजीव कुमार यांची पदोन्नती
मे 2022 मध्ये राजीव कुमार यांची पदोन्नती होऊन ते मुख्य निवडणूक आयुक्त (CEC) झाले.
2023 – नियुक्ती समितीतील बदल
ऑगस्ट 2023 मध्ये सरकारने विधेयक आणले. त्यानुसार, CEC आणि EC नियुक्ती समितीतून मुख्य न्यायाधीश (CJI) यांना वगळण्यात आले आणि त्यांच्या जागी केंद्रीय मंत्री नेमण्यात आले.
डिसेंबर 21, 2023 रोजी हे विधेयक संसदेत पास झाले. त्यावेळी 100 पेक्षा जास्त विरोधी पक्ष खासदारांना निलंबित करण्यात आले होते.
2024 – सलग राजीनामे व नवे आयुक्त
फेब्रुवारी 14, 2024 रोजी EC अनुप चंद्र पांडे निवृत्त झाले.
याच दरम्यान 9 मार्च 2024 रोजी EC अरुण गोयल यांनी अचानक राजीनामा दिला. त्यांचे मतभेद CEC राजीव कुमार यांच्यासोबत झाल्याचे सांगितले गेले.
नंतर सरकारने बैठकीची तारीख पुढे करून एकाऐवजी दोन जागा भरल्या.
15 मार्च 2024 रोजी ज्ञानेश कुमार आणि सुखबीरसिंग संधू यांची EC पदावर नियुक्ती झाली.
ही नियुक्ती लोकसभा निवडणुकीच्या एक महिन्यापूर्वी करण्यात आली आणि ती नव्या कायद्याखाली झालेली पहिली नियुक्ती होती.
2025 – ज्ञानेश कुमार नवे CEC
फेब्रुवारी 2025 मध्ये राजीव कुमार निवृत्त झाले.
त्यानंतर फक्त 48 तासांवर सुप्रीम कोर्टात सुनावणी होणार होती. त्याआधीच ज्ञानेश कुमार यांची CEC म्हणून नियुक्ती आणि विवेक जोशी यांची EC म्हणून नियुक्ती करण्यात आली.
ही प्रक्रिया मध्यरात्रीत फाइल्स वेगाने मंजूर करून करण्यात आली, असे राहुल गांधींनी आपल्या पोस्टमध्ये म्हटले आहे.
ज्ञानेश कुमार यांची पार्श्वभूमी

राहुल गांधी यांनी मतदार याद्यांमध्ये झालेल्या विसंगतींचे पुरावे निवडणूक आयोगाकडे दिले.
मात्र चौकशी न करता CEC ज्ञानेश कुमार यांनी विरोधी पक्ष नेत्यालाच त्या पुराव्यावर शपथपत्र साइन करण्यास सांगितले.
ही बाब त्यांनी जनतेसमोर आणत निवडणूक आयोगाच्या पारदर्शकतेवर गंभीर प्रश्नचिन्ह उपस्थित केले.
राजीव कुमार माल्टा येथे?
माजी CEC राजीव कुमार यांनी भारत सोडून माल्टा (Mediterranean Sea, Europe) येथे स्थायिक झाल्याची चर्चा असल्याचे राहुल गांधींनी नमूद केले.
राहुल गांधींच्या WhatsApp पोस्टमुळे पुन्हा एकदा निवडणूक आयोगाच्या स्वायत्ततेवर आणि पारदर्शकतेवर चर्चा सुरू झाली आहे.
त्यांनी स्पष्ट शब्दांत म्हटले आहे की — “Clean Voter List, EC Transparency & Democracy या आपल्याला राजे-महाराजांकडून मिळालेल्या दान नाहीत. त्या आपल्या हक्काच्या आहेत.”
